  • 220 g cold unsalted butter (cut into cubes)
  • 1 kg apples (Pink Lady, Royal Gala, or Fuji)
  • 190 g brown sugar
  • 1¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1¼ tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2½ tbsp water
  • 5 tbsp almond flour (or other finely ground nuts or breadcrumbs)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp agua
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • Vanilla Ice Cream or your favorite flavor

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust by mixing flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Rub in the cold butter until crumbly and add cold water gradually until dough forms. Wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  2. For the filling, peel and slice apples. In a saucepan, melt butter and mix in apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, salt, and water. Cook until slightly softened.
  3. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Roll out chilled dough and place it in a pie dish. Fill with apple mixture and top with another layer of rolled dough.
  4. Brush with beaten egg mixed with agua and sprinkle brown sugar on top. Bake for about 80 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Serve warm slices with generous scoops of vanilla ice cream.
