Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 small Granny Smith apples
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 (9 inch) double-crust pie pastry

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Peel, core, and slice the Granny Smith apples thinly.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in flour, then add sugars and water; bring to a boil and simmer for about 3-5 minutes until thickened.
  3. Press one pastry into a pie pan and roll out the remaining pastry for lattice strips.
  4. Fill the bottom crust with apple slices, creating a mound in the center.
  5. Weave the lattice strips over the apples, trimming excess dough.
  6. Pour the caramel sauce over the lattice and bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) and bake another 35-45 minutes until apples are soft.
