  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 & 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom (optional)
  • milk or beaten egg for brushing (optional)
  • raw sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Prepare the apple filling by peeling and slicing apples into thin pieces. Toss them with lemon juice.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, combine apple slices with sugars, flour, spices, and salt. Cook gently until tender.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract and let the mixture cool.
  5. Roll out your pie crusts; place one layer in your pie plate.
  6. Fill with cooled apple mixture and cover with the second crust.
  7. Chill for 30 minutes before baking.
