  • ¾ cup sour cream
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups butter (cold and cut into chunks)
  • 10 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp vanilla extract
  • Green gel food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, mix vegetable oil, sour cream, heavy cream, and eggs until smooth. Add chocolate cake mix, cocoa powder, and optional espresso powder; combine well.
  2. Line a cupcake tin with paper liners and fill each about two-thirds full. Bake for about 15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  3. For the frosting: Beat cold butter in a bowl until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing until fluffy. Stir in vanilla extract, heavy cream, salt, and green gel food coloring until you reach your desired hue.
  4. Using a piping bag fitted with an M tip, swirl frosting on each cupcake in a tree shape. Top with golden star sprinkles and holiday sprinkles.
