  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (divided)
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 large onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ginger, garlic, and a drizzle of sesame oil. Marinate the beef strips for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the sliced onion until soft and caramelized. Season with salt and pepper before removing from the pan.
  3. In the same skillet, heat an additional 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over high heat. Add marinated beef strips and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together remaining soy sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch; pour over the beef in the skillet and let simmer until thickened.
  5. Add back the sautéed onions into the pan with the beef and stir to combine. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
