  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup plain yogurt or sour cream
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking pan and line it with parchment paper.
  2. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples; set aside.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cardamom.
  4. In another bowl, mix melted butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and yogurt until smooth.
  5. Combine dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just blended.
  6. Layer half the batter in the pan followed by half the apple slices; repeat with remaining batter and apples.
  7. Mix sugar and cinnamon for the topping; sprinkle over the apples.
  8. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
